SQUARES (2011-2016)

This body of work came during a time when I took a break from figurative work. I had been playing around with Instagram in its earliest stages, when it was simply a photo sharing app. I enjoyed photographing corners of my apartment and cropping them into little square compositions on my phone. It occurred to me at one point to paint the little compositions, with the first few of this series being very small (10 x 10 inches) to mirror the cramped size of the digital squares. This work was included in a two person show at the 3rd Street Gallery called “Squares” in 2016.
